Flexday Team

In this series, we shine a spotlight on some forward-thinking teams at Flexday.

We discuss some topics that are relevant to how they approach their work style, how their teams harness productivity within their practices, and the role that flex workspaces play as part of their radical, new approach to building next-generation solutions.

Armstrong Partnership is a full-service brand marketing agency that helps B2B brands authentically engage with their customers. They have years of experience in complex B2B/B2B2C sectors such as technology, financial services and animal health, and have RBC, Mastercard, Mount Sinai, Boehringer Ingleheim, Mentorvet, among others in their client roster.

Example of Armstrong Partnership B2B work with Mastercard.

We chatted with John Armstrong, Founder & CEO (and long-time Flexday Customer) his teams' views about the world of work, and how their team of 60 is able to deliver effective, leading-edge strategy and campaign work in a "hybrid" model for their sophisticated accounts. Their workplace operations is as busy and fast-paced as modern marketing agencies, so a lot of learning lessons on how team productivity is managed with a distributed space over periods of time, including how Flexday has helped with this modern challenge.

1.      Tell us about your company.

Armstrong Partnership is a leading Digital B2B Marketing Agency with offices in Toronto and New York. We have over 60 employees and have been in business for over 20 years.

2.      Tell us about the opportunities or challenges facing your sector that your team/s are focused on meeting and addressing.

As a provider of Global Marketing Solutions, our team is constantly trying to optimize our mix of services to fit the rapidly changing needs of our clients. This is a great opportunity given the larger scope and ability to service contracts around the world. Our challenges currently are automation and internalisation of complex services.

3.      Does your company espouse a specific workplace model? (i.e.: remote, hybrid, full in-person)

We used to have a large office space that the team would use every day. We had that specific space for 15 years and eventually gave it up in 2022. We listened to our team and now offer our employees a hybrid work model where they can use our (shared) office 1-3 days each week when they need to collaborate or simply want to work with colleagues in a centrally located space. This has resulted in more meaningful work sessions and time spent together when people are in the office collaborating.

4.      How does this workplace model help your team/s? What are they saying about it?

Our teams enjoy the freedom and flexibility that comes with a hybrid work arrangement. They can prioritize family and life outside of work as they need to, as long as they are getting their work done and providing our clients and partners with the service they are accustomed to. Our employees tell us that they appreciate our leaders' willingness to adapt to more modern ways of working and we believe this has resulted in even greater employee loyalty and retention.

5.      Are there unique things your teams or leaders do to make this workplace model work even better for everyone?

Probably none that are truly unique. We spend time and money on events and communications to make sure everyone is engaged and healthy.

6.      How do Flexday workspaces help your teams do their best work?

We worked with Flexday's advisory team to help us find an office space that we could either share with another company or use on our own for 1-3 days each week. We liked the idea of only paying for space when we were using it and experiencing close to 100% utilization, but eventually went with a shared space with one other company. Because we have cut down our real estate costs significantly after giving up our lease and working with Flexday, we also let our employees use the Flexday app to touchdown at drop-in workspaces that are conveniently located to them across Canada. Our team is fully distributed and this product works especially well for team members that are outside of the Greater Toronto Area.

7.      What's the one thing Flexday can do to make your team/s' workspace needs even better?

If Flexday gave us the ability to track who is coming into the office and a way for our employees to let other team members know that they are coming in, that would be a terrific feature. Right now, we rely on our internal messaging platforms to do that but to have all workspace related matters handled by Flexday would make it that much more valuable to us! This would be great not only for our main office, but also for different drop-in workspaces that our employees use on their own or with a couple of colleagues.
